About the Author
Why did you decide to become a writer?
I don’t think it was a decision. It was a need. I wrote in high school and was blissfully happy in those months that I was writing… but my parents felt I was obsessed and started limiting my writing time and my boyfriend convinced me to burn the book, and I put writing on the back-burner. In college, I thought I wanted to become an advertising copywriter, but my copywriting professor told me I should be doing creative writing. Still, I didn’t take him seriously, and I became a graphic designer. Ten years later, I was at a crossroads and I read some popular books and thought I could write a better story. Nate and Emi and Jack started becoming developed characters in my mind, and when they started telling their stories, I had to write them down. I’d found happiness that I thought was long gone… and the rest is history!
What do you love most about being a writer?Honestly, I get such satisfaction out of creating my little worlds, and being in the minds of my characters. Escaping reality is a wonderful benefit to being a fiction author… I feel like I can go anywhere and do anything through them.
What are your favorite kinds of books to write?
Hmmm… I write contemporary fiction and young adult, and I like them both. Really, I love writing any story with passion, conflict and emotions, and that could be in any genre. I recently wrote a more light-hearted short story (Number 7), and that was a really fun diversion for me, too. Out of my books, I think I had the most fun writing Not Today, But Someday, because I alternated characters as narrators. I liked having one pick up the story where the other left off. I felt like the story really flowed easily.
