I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The sophomore curse often hits books (and movies) so I braced myself a little as I got into this story. Wonderfully there’s enough faerie magic to ward it off as this book manages to rival the first, if not show it up in some aspects.
Some time has passed since the first book and Shade is coming along nicely with her training in both magic and combat. Which comes in handy because there’s a bit of action in this book which Shade gets to join in rather than just stand around feeling useless.
Much like the first book, Shade has a pretty rough time, and she should really start carrying some enchanted gatorade or something with her so she can re-hydrate after all the crying. Not that she doesn’t have a darn good reason to, she just seems to do an awful lot of it!
Not to spoil anything but just when I was dreading that we could be stuck with a horrible cliffhanger we’re not! By no means is there any resolution and certainly not a happy ending, but you at least won’t spend the time between book two and three dangling from a cliff!

As I am reading on in this series I am becoming more invested in Shade! She’s learning more about herself and her heritage as time goes on. All the while, I am sitting here on pins and needles waiting and waiting for Shade and Dylan to hook up.
She seems to gain more suitors as I turn each page, which frustrates me. I keep wanting to yell at them, she loves Dylan, she belongs with Dylan. But yet, I am not getting the satisfaction of her and Dylan hooking up.
Ok, when Shade lets Corb take her in to keep the others safe and while she was imprisoned and tortured, I keep screaming at my kindle – “Where the HECK is Dylan!” It was driving me crazy! So happy when he finally arrived. But too soon the book ended and left me wanting more! Now off to EverWinter I go!
