Hi everybody!
Today, September 8, is International Literacy Day! UNESCO proclaimed September 8th as International Literacy Day in 1966 to celebrate the importance of literacy around the world. Today, 17% of the world’s population is illiterate. That’s 12,920,000,000 people! A big cause of illiteracy around the world is a lack of understanding as to why being literate is so important.
As a way to celebrate International Literacy Day, I created this short story contest.
The contest is open to anyone that wishes to participate, but it is limited to one entry per person. Entries should be no longer than 2,000 words in length and your entry should be unique and your own writing. The last day to submit your entry is October 4th. Winners will be announced on October 8th and the top 3 stories will be featured on the blog. Please email all entries to punchingoutilliteracywithapow@gmail.com with “INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY CONTEST 2020” in the subject line and include your name with your entry.
Prompt: 20 years ago, people all around the world suddenly stopped reading. Since then, a deadly virus has swept across the globe, killing almost everyone that is exposed to it. You believe the two events are related and you are determined to save the remaining population.
Have fun writing!
