amulet of elusionAlexa Costa has a life-altering secret…only she doesn’t know it yet.

Confined by law to the kingdom of Alvair until the age of eighteen, Alexa Costa has lived a sheltered existence under the watchful eye of her sword-wielding guardian, Ivy. Her love interest, Caleb Whitman, is exactly the opposite. A merchant sailor and seeker of rare artifacts, Caleb has lived a life of adventure in nearby San Lucero, the long-time rival of Alvair.

After her eighteenth birthday, Alexa’s quiet existence becomes tumultuous, and she realizes she does not need to seek to find adventure. Myths become real, legend becomes fact, and Alexa discovers that she possesses rare abilities which make her a target for both sides in a centuries-old struggle for power. She must use every resource available to her—including her talents with the supernatural Amulets— to help her friends, rekindle her romance with Caleb, and save her island home from destruction.

Things that I like about this book are the way things are described, like the settings and what the characters are thinking and feeling. I can really connect with the characters the way it’s written. I liked the view points between Alexa and Caleb.

The only thing I that comes to mind that would make it better is if it had a faster pace.

Amulet of Elusion drew me in from the beginning. It starts off with a chapter about Alexa. She’s about to turn 18. Currently she is not able to leave Alvair, which I found interesting. It left me curious as to why and I wanted to continue reading. Alexa has a secret hideout which is really neat. I loved that she had this place to retreat to that was something of her own.

After Alexa turns 18 she has the freedom to leave Alvair and then ends up on a journey to find amulets. The ending was good. It was not a slap you in the face cliff hanger, but it left me with a feeling that there is more adventures ahead.
