Survivor 50 Thoughts From a Longtime Fan
I have been watching Survivor since it’s first season.
Fifty seasons in, you would think Survivor would run out of ways to surprise us, but it has not. Season 50 is proving that it still has plenty to talk about, for better and for worse.
As a longtime fan, I had high hopes going into this milestone season, and overall it has definitely been a fun watch. Seeing some of my all-time favorites return has been the biggest highlight for me. I mean, how can you not love watching legends like Joe Hunter, Cirie Fields, and Colby Donaldson back in action? That alone makes this season feel special.
One episode that really stood out to me was the one featuring Zac Brown. From what I saw on social media, I am in the minority on enjoying that. I saw so many posts complaining about it. That said, I am not completely sold on all the celebrity elements this season. The whole Billie Eilish immunity idol thing just did not really do it for me. It feels a little too gimmicky and takes away from what makes Survivor great in the first place. Personally I wish they would get rid of the idols all together.
Honestly, I find myself wishing the show would go back to a more old school format. I would love to see a season with no idols or advantages at all. Just pure strategy, social gameplay, and survival. That is when Survivor really shines.
Another thing I have been noticing is how crowded the season feels. There are just too many players for a shorter, new school format. It makes it hard to give everyone balanced airtime, and some contestants barely get a chance to stand out. With so many returning players, I would love to see more of their personalities and gameplay instead of everything feeling rushed.
As for who I am rooting for, I am all in on Joe this season. It would be amazing to see Joe Hunter take the win. My second pick is definitely Cirie Fields. She is such a strategic player and it would be incredible to finally see her get the victory she deserves.
Overall, I am enjoying the season, especially for the nostalgia factor, but I do think it could be even better with a few changes. I will definitely be watching to see how it all plays out.
