It started with The Tale of Lunarmorte Trilogy, The Warriors of Ankh Trilogy, The Fire Spirits Series, and then Slumber & Drip Drop Teardrop. After all of these great Paranormal books, she branched out into Contemporary Romance with the On Dublin Street series of books & Into the Deep.

interview

Why did you decide to become a writer?

I’ve always been a writer—it’s something that’s been a part of me since I was a little girl and fell in love with the world of books and storytelling. However, I decided to publish my writing because I had written a trilogy that had thus far been rejected. I found out about self-publishing and when I lost my job due to budget cuts, I decided there was nothing left to lose and I started self-publishing.

Who/what are your writing inspirations?

I’m inspired greatly by music. I’ve got playlists to all my books on their blogs. Film and other books are an inspiration as well. But mostly it’s music and my family and friends that always inspire my work.

What are your favorite genres to read?

Paranormal/Dystopian—adult and YA. Adult contemp Romance.

What do you hope readers take away most from your writing?

Simply—I want readers to have escaped into another life for a little while. No matter who we are or what’s going on in our lives we need that escape. The best escapes involve falling deeply in love with the characters on the page, as though they were your best friends or your family. I hope that readers feel that way about my characters and that for a little while their troubles and worries melt away because of them.

Who’s the favorite character of yours that you’ve written and why?

I loved writing Olivia from BEFORE JAMAICA LANE. She’s really independent but sociable at the same time. She gives good banter, and made me laugh a lot. Moreover, I think she’s probably one of the best friends I’ve written and there is nothing quite like a great friend. For me Liv is probably the one character I’d hope most readers would want as a friend—she’s relatable, she’s kind and she’s got a great sense of humor. I also think she’s a heroine to look up to because at no point do I think she gives up on what is best for her in order to appease others, and that’s a difficult thing to do in life—especially when you’re in love. Olivia is a strong cookie.

What is your writing style? Outliner/Planner or Seat of the Pantser?

I am definitely a planner. I write character profiles, a book outline and then chapter summaries. I do not write well without a plan.

If someone wanted to become a writer, what tips would you give to them?

Write, write, write. No matter how ready to be published a writer feels, there is always room to improve and develop your skills and the only way to do that is to practice.

If you could collaborate with any other author(living, dead, or undead) who would that be and why?

Aristophanes. The dude was funny.

If you weren’t a writer, what would you do?

Um… I think I’d probably work for the Scottish tourist board. I’m big into history.

Coke, Pepsi, or?

Diet Pepsi

What’s one thing people should know and/or don’t know about you?

I like haggis. What? It tastes nice, honest. Just don’t think about what’s in it…
